Because Of The Times»rank: 361par: Kings of Leon
Chroniques et points de vue:From : Aha Shake Heartbreak may have blown open the doors of fame for Kings of Leon, but their third full-length album (named for a United Pentecostal Church ministers' conference) could well usher the Nashville foursome directly to rock and roll's zenith. There's hardly a change in plans for the three Followill brothers and their cousin, and that means producer Ethan Johns, a smorgasbord of musical influences, and a cacophonous ensemble of guitar, bass, and drums. A trio of relentless rockers--'My Party,' ... |

No Reservation Music From The»rank: 2869par: Soundtrack
Chroniques et points de vue:From :lt's pretty clear, based on its title, that this movie is set in a restaurant, and it's even clearer that it's an ltalian restaurant when you look at the soundtrack: lts bread and butter (or pasta and olive oil) is arias from Puccini and Verdi. Complete Greatest Hits»rank: 352par: Gordon Lightfoot
Chroniques et points de vue:From Amazon.co.uk:Although he rose from the ranks of journeyman 60s' folksingers to become a potent and consistent 70s hit-maker, Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot's stock-in-trade was as much hard-eyed, dispassionate observation as it was romance or poetic whimsy. Perhaps that's why his songs have been covered by everyone from Elvis (this sets 'Early Morning Rain') to Dylan. lf there's such a thing as an alpha-male folkie, Lightfoot certainly fits the bill. The Wall (Ltd Ed)»rank: 1238par: Pink Floyd
Chroniques et points de vue: essential recording:The Wall is less a collection of songs than a single work, which is sometimes frustrating; the plot lacks enough coherence to hold the snippets of music together. However, there are occasional flashes of brilliance on what ranks as Pink Floyd's most ambitious project. Most of these come from the fully developed songs, which have become classics in their own right. 'Hey You,' 'Mother,' and especially 'Comfortably Numb' are subtle, incredible pieces of music. Though complex, they move at a ... |
Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.
November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.
Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.
The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.
Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.
The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.
The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
