Honey From The Tombs»rank: 3358par: Amy Millan
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca:Honey From The Tombs may be Montreal artist Amy Millan's solo debut, but any Canadian indie rock aficionado will already have heard her voice on a number of recordings from Broken Social Scene and Stars. Knowing that, if edgy alt-rock is what you are seeking from this release, be prepared to look elsewhere; contrary to the gothic-looking cover, this is primarily a collection of bluegrass-affected music, though there are some wonderfully languid alt-country melodies to be found within these grooves. The disc is divided into two basic sounds; ... |

Hi How Are You Today?»rank: 19399par: Ashley Macisaac
Chroniques et points de vue:From :l don't know what they keep thinking up in Nova Scotia. Maybe it's all the fish they eat, or the fact that they can go to jail and not collect $200, but they keep putting out odd music. Like Ashley Maclsaac, who desires to reinvent traditional Cape Breton fiddle playing as something for the '90s (which probably explains the kilt, DMs, and plaid shirt--a sort of ethnic Nigel Kennedy). lt's a nice idea, but it's been done. ln the '60s (Fairport Convention), '70s (Steeleye Span, East of ... |

Lay It Down»rank: 13982par: Cowboy Junkies
Chroniques et points de vue:From Amazon.co.uk:ln 1996, the Cowboy Junkies could have gone one of two ways: they could have veered away from their familiar melancholic, somber sound or dug deeper into the groove. They chose the latter. Margo Timmins's distinctively sleepy, seductive vocals never sounded better--here she perfects the art of the subtle attack, best exemplified by the radio hit 'A Common Disaster'. The band knows when to pull back (it lays a spare, delicate foundation for her wispy words on tracks like 'Something More Besides You' and the achingly beautiful ... |

Barenaked Ladies Are Men»rank: 10640par: Barenaked Ladies
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca:Barenaked Ladies Are Men is a companion disc to the predecessor, Barenaked Ladies Are Me. Although recorded during the same studio sessions, the discs were released five months apart. Are Me is the quieter of the two, while Are Men could be described as the feistier, noisier twin brother. Given their adult contemporary history, the Ladies's version of 'feisty' is hardly a venture into death metal, however Are Men contains an evolutionary quality that may well bring new fans into the fold. Nearly two decades into their career, ... |

Filed under: Car Buying, Etc., Green
Diesel vehicles have nearly a 50-percent market share in Europe, thanks to tax incentives and diesel-friendly legislation across the EU. Diesels are so passé there that you can buy a BMW 730d and no one will think it odd that your luxury car burns oil. Pull up in a diesel 7-Series in America and people would leer at you like you've alighted from an amphibious vehicle reeking of saltwater and dead trout.
But now, thanks to the oft-reported combo of newly-raised CAFE standards, not-so-newly-raised gas prices, and the 50-state diesel engine, GM, Ford, and Chrysler are about to dip more than a hesitant toe into the diesel game. Chrysler offers a diesel in the Grand Cherokee, but soon all three automakers will offer diesels in their best-selling lineups of light trucks -- the Dodge Ram 1500 is expected to offer a 50-state diesel after 2009. Light trucks are being used to lead the charge since those buyers stand to gain the most with the least amount of (perceived) sacrifice.
Diesels currently have 3.2-percent of the American market. Some estimates put them at 15-percent by 2015. That's a huge leap, and diesel still has plenty of hurdles. Diesels will come with a cost premium over gasoline-engined cars. That should be easy enough to conquer -- incentives and some quick cost and longevity calculations should convince people of the benefit. The real hurdle is the nagging issue of perception. The plan will probably be to attack that with a price that makes the proposition unbeatable. Said Chrysler's director of environmental affairs, "If it's priced right, we can sell diesel here. Diesel can give you an immediate poke in fuel economy -- 20 to 40 percent. Not many technologies can deliver that today."
