Declare A New State»rank: 22891par: Submarines
Chroniques et points de vue: :Declare a New State is the sound of a break-up. lt's also the sound of a reunion. ln 'Clouds,' former solo artist Blake Hazard (Little Airplane), the great-great granddaughter of F. Scott Fitzgerald, sings, 'Tonight l won't be coming home.' Then in 'Hope,' John Dragonetti, who used to record as Jack Drag, sings, 'l should have known you were gonna drift away.' The irony is that the making of their debut helped to bring the ... |

Live It Out»rank: 1961par: Metric
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca:Toronto's Metric has the ability to appeal to fans on a number of levels: the group captures the likeability of Elastica with the cheekiness of Blondie and then mixes that new wave style with just enough of a growling guitar to give it some oomph. Since their last release, the acclaimed 0ld World Underground, Where Are You Now?, Metric's sound has morphed slightly; this follow-up is a little more guitar-based and slightly less electronic than ... |

Letting Go»rank: 4740par: Bonnie Prince Billy
Chroniques et points de vue:From : Having long recorded as Palace Music or Palace, the enigmatic, elusive Bonnie 'Prince' Billy continues to confound musical expectations. His latest may well be his loveliest, a series of meditations and tone poems on love and mortality, with the autumnal strains of a chamber quartet and the vocal counterpoint of Dawn McCarthy supporting Billy's tremulous expression of his surreal, stream-of-consciousness lyricism. Results range from the dreamy, bluesy 'Cursed Sleep' and the evocation of ... |

Blood On The Slacks»rank: 21890par: Golden Smog
Chroniques et points de vue:From : With two releases in less than a year, should Golden Smog still be considered a side project? 0n this follow-up to Another Fine Day, the Minneapolis offshoot of the Jayhawks (Gary Louris, Marc Perlman), Soul Asylum (Dan Murphy), and Run Westy Run (Kraig Johnson) indulge in pop Anglophilia and '70s nostalgia, Mellotron, and synthesizer, as the mini-album includes covers of David Bowie's 'Starman' and Dinosaur Jr.'s 'Tarpit,' along with originals that have the ... |
Filed under: Car Buying, Etc., Green
Diesel vehicles have nearly a 50-percent market share in Europe, thanks to tax incentives and diesel-friendly legislation across the EU. Diesels are so passé there that you can buy a BMW 730d and no one will think it odd that your luxury car burns oil. Pull up in a diesel 7-Series in America and people would leer at you like you've alighted from an amphibious vehicle reeking of saltwater and dead trout.
But now, thanks to the oft-reported combo of newly-raised CAFE standards, not-so-newly-raised gas prices, and the 50-state diesel engine, GM, Ford, and Chrysler are about to dip more than a hesitant toe into the diesel game. Chrysler offers a diesel in the Grand Cherokee, but soon all three automakers will offer diesels in their best-selling lineups of light trucks -- the Dodge Ram 1500 is expected to offer a 50-state diesel after 2009. Light trucks are being used to lead the charge since those buyers stand to gain the most with the least amount of (perceived) sacrifice.
Diesels currently have 3.2-percent of the American market. Some estimates put them at 15-percent by 2015. That's a huge leap, and diesel still has plenty of hurdles. Diesels will come with a cost premium over gasoline-engined cars. That should be easy enough to conquer -- incentives and some quick cost and longevity calculations should convince people of the benefit. The real hurdle is the nagging issue of perception. The plan will probably be to attack that with a price that makes the proposition unbeatable. Said Chrysler's director of environmental affairs, "If it's priced right, we can sell diesel here. Diesel can give you an immediate poke in fuel economy -- 20 to 40 percent. Not many technologies can deliver that today."
