Elk-Lake Serenade»rank: 2027par: Hayden
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca:ls it any accident that all of Hayden Desser's album covers are earth tones? Chocolate browns, grassy greens, warm hues in the shades of faded-out polaroids decorate all of them. That same visual consistency applies to his music; pick up a Hayden disc and you're guaranteed to get an earful of acoustic guitar twang, harmonica swoop and softness. Acoustic Neil Young comparisons have followed him since the beginning, but ultimately, Young's song 'Helpless' can best explain Hayden's appeal; fragile yet warm vocals ... |

Hospital Music»rank: 2738par: Matthew Good
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca:Matthew Good's seventh studio release Hospital Music is based on a premise that no one would wish to be inspired by: Good's overdose, spurred on by a nasty divorce and his ongoing battles with bipolar disorder. As a result, this disc is a dark, deeply intimate collection of music from a singer who has always been clever, but not always this lyrically direct. Sonically, Hospital Music is equally candid; opening track 'Champions of Nothing' is a monolithic 9 and a half minutes ... |

Siamese Dream»rank: 5282par: Smashing Pumpkins
Chroniques et points de vue: essential recording:An introductory drum roll drops out and is replaced by a single suspended electric guitar, which is then paralleled by a snare, filled in with the bass, and--crash!--'Cherub Rock,' the opening track, is enveloped in an explosion of metal guitar. So the journey begins. This album is pre-experimentation vintage Pumpkins. Produced by Butch Vig (Garbage, Sonic Youth, Nirvana's Nevermind), Siamese Dream is first about guitars. Lots and lots of guitars. A very close second is Jimmy Chamberlain's unquestionably excellent power ... |

Pinkerton»rank: 2157par: Weezer
Chroniques et points de vue:From Amazon.co.uk:A hit single can be a bit of a mixed blessing for new bands, especially if said song gets you firmly lumped into the 'novelty band' category. Such was the case with Weezer, whose runaway hit 'Buddy Holly' touched a global nerve upon its release, then got on everyone's nerves after months of radio saturation. However, it did ensure that they sold millions of copies of their self-titled debut. Which is why it's so strange that their second album, Pinkerton, was ... |

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.
November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.
Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.
The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.
Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.
The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.
The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
