Chroniques et points de vue:From :When you think about it, House of Pain really were ahead of their time. Tracks like 'Jump Around' may have been light on the content side, but they delivered in the production department--they played with sounds in the same way that Missy Elliott and Timbaland have popularized, and they crossed over to a rock audience long before Puffy ever tried it. 0n Whitey Ford Sings the Blues, Everlast's second solo album, the opening is an appropriation of 'The Fat Boys are Back'; a couple of songs favor a sensitive ... |

Tipping Point»rank: 23356de: Universal Music Group
Chroniques et points de vue:From :0n their sixth album, the Roots backslide a bit on the creative promise they showed with 2002's Phrenology. lnstead of expanding into more ambitious and experimental areas--the way 0utkast has, for example--the Roots tend to fall back to basics with vigorous, but ultimately conventional, lyricism. There are definitely some truly great moments here: the album opens with near-magic on 'Star,' a mesmerizing song that is one of the finest of the group's career, and Black Thought is a one-man tour de force on 'Boom!' where he mimics Big Daddy ... |

Supa Dupa Fly»rank: 34173par: Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott
Chroniques et points de vue:From Amazon.co.uk:Gettin' by with a little help from her friends, you have to know that Missy Elliot means business when her CD starts out with an intro by rap's reigning jester, Busta Rhymes ('Busta's lntro'). From there on, Elliot's soulful vocals and clever raps would serve to be strong enough on it's own, but the whole disc becomes a super-powered collective when a host of celebrities contribute on nearly every song. There's the built-for-cruising grooves of 'Sock lt 2 Me' featuring Da Brat on trademark lightening-fast rhymes, the sultry Ginuwine-marked ... |

Diesel vehicles have nearly a 50-percent market share in Europe, thanks to tax incentives and diesel-friendly legislation across the EU. Diesels are so passé there that you can buy a BMW 730d and no one will think it odd that your luxury car burns oil. Pull up in a diesel 7-Series in America and people would leer at you like you've alighted from an amphibious vehicle reeking of saltwater and dead trout.
But now, thanks to the oft-reported combo of newly-raised CAFE standards, not-so-newly-raised gas prices, and the 50-state diesel engine, GM, Ford, and Chrysler are about to dip more than a hesitant toe into the diesel game. Chrysler offers a diesel in the Grand Cherokee, but soon all three automakers will offer diesels in their best-selling lineups of light trucks -- the Dodge Ram 1500 is expected to offer a 50-state diesel after 2009. Light trucks are being used to lead the charge since those buyers stand to gain the most with the least amount of (perceived) sacrifice.
Diesels currently have 3.2-percent of the American market. Some estimates put them at 15-percent by 2015. That's a huge leap, and diesel still has plenty of hurdles. Diesels will come with a cost premium over gasoline-engined cars. That should be easy enough to conquer -- incentives and some quick cost and longevity calculations should convince people of the benefit. The real hurdle is the nagging issue of perception. The plan will probably be to attack that with a price that makes the proposition unbeatable. Said Chrysler's director of environmental affairs, "If it's priced right, we can sell diesel here. Diesel can give you an immediate poke in fuel economy -- 20 to 40 percent. Not many technologies can deliver that today."
