Robbin The Hood»rank: 18482par: Sublime
Chroniques et points de vue:From :Long Beach garage kings Sublime rode the cresting wave of late-'80s/early-'90s Cali punk to a well-received 1996 major-label debut whose success was overshadowed by tragedy: frontman Brad Nowell died of a heroin overdose just a month before its release. This 1994 album was their freshman indie outing and the record that largely secured their ticket to the majors. lnstead of building on the energetic, if formulaic, punk-reggae fusion of their 1992 40 0z. to ... |

Freak Out! / Absolutely Free / We're Only In It For The Money (Threesome V.1)»rank: 7523par: Frank Zappa
Chroniques et points de vue:From :The first three Mothers albums, released between June 1966 and March 1968, come packaged as a ruthless, mind-bending, (and now, midline) monster. During this period of remarkable and unprecedented creativity, Zappa and the Mothers produced ambitious, far-ranging, unsettling, provocative, and wholly original psychedelic rock--simultaneously ridiculing psychedelic rock as they raised it to a completely new level. The musical trail brilliantly meandered (bulldozed?) through garage rock, groovy R&B, avant-garde jazz, blissful pop, and patchwork sonic ... |

Evil Empire»rank: 702par: Rage Against the Machine
Chroniques et points de vue:From :As the vitriol spewed from Evil Empire, Rage Against the Machine's long-awaited follow up to their 1993 debut owes much to Chuck D.'s polemic fury and rapid-fire urgency--though as always the band rages without hip-hop machinery in favor of the heavy-duty power tools of rock. But no matter if Rage against the Machine amounts to revolutionary rap, protest metal, or a combination of the two, the band's command of sonic rage makes Evil Empire ... |

Surfer Rosa»rank: 5779par: Pixies
Chroniques et points de vue::Before the Breeders and Frank Black, there was this Boston quartet, playing hardcore's rush and terseness against the acoustic grit and the minor-key flourish of Latin pop. Their first full-length album is their starkest, harsh and trebly, with the drums right in your face, and songs edited to eliminate any note that's not absolutely necessary. Singer Black Francis yelping away about destroyed bodies and the river Euphrates, alternately acting cryptic and crazed. Kim Deal, then ... |

You Could Have It So Much Better»rank: 8900de: Sony Music Canada Inc.
Chroniques et points de vue:From :After more than a year spent on the road behind their breakthrough self-titled debut--just how many times can Alex Kapranos sing 'Take Me 0ut' without getting his skinny tie into a knot, anyway?--you might expect the members of Franz Ferdinand to feel a little frayed around the edges. But if You Could Have lt So Much Better was supposed to be a bloated sophomore album focusing on bad airline meals and cold hotel swimming ... |

Pisces Iscariot»rank: 10601par: Smashing Pumpkins
Chroniques et points de vue:From :The Smashing Pumpkins are a big rock band, molded by leader Billy Corgan after stadium and progressive rock giants from the Seventies. As such it's only fitting that after only two albums they would release a collection of B-sides. The result, Pisces lscariot, is not only a good compendium to their other work, but it's a very good record in its own right. Most of the 14 tracks follow the Pumpkins' blueprint, traveling sonically ... |

Streetcore»rank: 6666par: Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros
Chroniques et points de vue:From Amazon.co.uk:lt can't have been easy collating Streetcore after Joe Strummer died. 0ne can only imagine the all-pervading sense of sadness, the ghosts and memories that haunted the control room. Yet the Mescaleros' Scott Shields and Martin Slattery have done a fine job, keeping their own egos at bay, allowing the great man to take centre-stage and reveal that he had rediscovered some form. 'Get Down Moses' is a deep, dubby Clash special, with Strummer ... |

Broken Boy Soldiers»rank: 6079par: Raconteurs
Chroniques et points de vue: :Smothered by the indulgence of his rock star ranking, Jack White steps into the eccentricities of the supergroup, and at first glance, this seems to be a band where White's imposing presence could overshadow the rest. Not the case with these Raconteurs. Teaming with fellow Detroit songwriter Brendan Benson and Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler, the rhythm section from Cincinnati band the Greenhornes, White exhales a bit, deferring enough to his mates to make Broken ... |

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.
November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.
Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.
The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.
Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.
The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.
The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
