Vol. 3- Mushroom Jazz»rank: 17730par: Mark Farina
Chroniques et points de vue:From Amazon.co.uk:Continuing the highly popular Mushroom Jazz series, Mark Farina goes for late-night purple velvet and down-tempo 2 am atmospheres on this third instalment, resulting in an electronic release for lounge lizards the world over. A basic hip-hop loop is the canvas throughout this 19-track mix, and on it Farina paints a series of smooth, sometimes shady but always sassy portraits, resulting in a thoroughly credible electronically-glazed slow-jam record. 0pening with the wholly seductive cruise control of 'California Sauce' by King Kooba, Farina goes on to introduce some ... |

Vol. 2- Mushroom Jazz»rank: 19885par: Mark Farina
Chroniques et points de vue:From :San Francisco-based Mark Farina cut his DJ teeth in the Chicago house-music scene. ln Mushroom Jazz, Vol. 2 his house roots flavor a seamless mix of laidback acid-jazz tracks. Farina doesn't mix the songs by the conventional tricks of the trade, such as slowing the bpm of one song to match the next or scratching the ending of a song to insert another. lnstead he uses bits and pieces from each track--a repetitive vocal sample here, a recurring drum pattern there--interspersing them throughout the CD to create ... |

Mushroom Jazz Vol. 5»rank: 19014par: Mark Farina
Chroniques et points de vue:From :Hailing originally from Chicago but long associated with San Francisco's jazz-house scene, Mark Farina returns to his bread-and-butter mix series Mushroom Jazz after 2003's eclectic artist record Air Farina. Less laid-back than Thievery Corporation but not quite as deep as 0m label mates like Marques Wyatt, the Mushroom records often delve into hip-hop, and Jazz 5 is no exception. But while rhymes and raps jump out alongside snappy beats to startle the listener from chill tune-induced hypnosis, large chunks of the record, especially in the last half, ... |

House of Om»rank: 18418par: Mark Farina
Chroniques et points de vue:From : The seventh installment in the House of 0m series features the heavyweight turntable techniques of DJ Mark Farina, who returns to his San Francisco roots eight years after having put West Coast house on the map with the much acclaimed San Francisco Sessions. Farina's style is as hard to pin down as the globetrotting DJ himself, and this mix is no exception. lt starts out on a deeper note, with an obscure a cappella that is signature Farina, moving quickly into some uptempo numbers that get ... |

Diesel vehicles have nearly a 50-percent market share in Europe, thanks to tax incentives and diesel-friendly legislation across the EU. Diesels are so passé there that you can buy a BMW 730d and no one will think it odd that your luxury car burns oil. Pull up in a diesel 7-Series in America and people would leer at you like you've alighted from an amphibious vehicle reeking of saltwater and dead trout.
But now, thanks to the oft-reported combo of newly-raised CAFE standards, not-so-newly-raised gas prices, and the 50-state diesel engine, GM, Ford, and Chrysler are about to dip more than a hesitant toe into the diesel game. Chrysler offers a diesel in the Grand Cherokee, but soon all three automakers will offer diesels in their best-selling lineups of light trucks -- the Dodge Ram 1500 is expected to offer a 50-state diesel after 2009. Light trucks are being used to lead the charge since those buyers stand to gain the most with the least amount of (perceived) sacrifice.
Diesels currently have 3.2-percent of the American market. Some estimates put them at 15-percent by 2015. That's a huge leap, and diesel still has plenty of hurdles. Diesels will come with a cost premium over gasoline-engined cars. That should be easy enough to conquer -- incentives and some quick cost and longevity calculations should convince people of the benefit. The real hurdle is the nagging issue of perception. The plan will probably be to attack that with a price that makes the proposition unbeatable. Said Chrysler's director of environmental affairs, "If it's priced right, we can sell diesel here. Diesel can give you an immediate poke in fuel economy -- 20 to 40 percent. Not many technologies can deliver that today."
