Ain't Life Amazing»rank: 6494par: Kim Mitchell
Chroniques et points de vue: :Two decades after his biggest hits 'Go for a Soda' and 'Patio Lanterns' and eight years since the release of his last studio record, Kim Mitchell makes a return to recording with Ain't Life Amazing. The mullet is gone--replaced by a bald head--but his classic rock & roll style remains. Mitchell has always been a master of the no-apologies straight-ahead rock hook, and this album is no exception; the disc starts out with its strongest number (and title track), the feel-good up-tempo 'Ain't Life Amazing.' Mitchell manages to venture into ... |

I Am A Wild Party Live»rank: 18342par: Kim Mitchell
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca:Recorded during his 1989 summer shed tour, l Am a Wild Party is a great example of Kim Mitchell's high-energy live show while he and his band were at the peak of their popularity. lt includes better-known songs culled from his first three solo albums--concert staples like 'Lager and Ale' and 'Go for Soda'--and superb renditions of 'Battle Scar' (a blast from his Max Webster past, with bassist Peter Fredette ably handling the Geddy Lee co-lead vocal) and previously unreleased concert favourite 'l Am a Wild Party.' Shakin Like A Human Being»rank: 22028par: Kim Mitchell
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca:Party rock doesn't get any less pretentious than Kim Mitchell. While his old band, Max Webster, might have dabbled in prog trickery, the frat favourite with the 0.P.P. baseball cap holds no airs about being anything more than a straight-ahead good-time rocker in his solo work. 1986's Shakin' Like a Human Being is a long- weekend must-have, full of fist-shaking classic rock radio staples like 'Get Lucky' and 'Alana Loves Me,' as well as slow dance faves like 'Patio Lanterns.' The cheesy synth sounds and lyrics by mustachioed sidekick Pye ... |

Girl With Orange Lips»rank: 22028de: Nonesuch
Chroniques et points de vue:From Amazon.co.uk:This was a seminal recital album: Dawn Upshaw not only came of age artistically but showed the world she wouldn't be maintaining the status quo repertoire. The programme is a carefully sequenced succession of darkly mysterious exotica, including Maurice Delage's Four Hindu Poems, Stravinsky's Three Japanese Lyrics and Ravel's Three Mallarmé Poems, all abstractly poetic and couching the voice in chamber ensembles with unusual instrumental combinations. What makes Upshaw so perfect for this is that her clarity of voice and purpose keep it all from becoming puzzling and obscure. ... |

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.
November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.
Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.
The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.
Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.
The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.
The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
