Chroniques et points de vue:

From Amazon.co.uk:
There is much to explore in Silver Mt Zion's Born lnto Trouble As The Sparks Fly Upwards. The first movement ('Sisters! Brothers! Small Boats of Fire are Falling from the Sky!') is a lush, richly scored orchestral piece, with found sound loops and complex instrumentation all contributing to a truly uplifting, climatic dirge. The second movement is much slower, with more traditional rock elements--feedback, silence and discordant guitars--creeping in among the neo-classical instruments. lt's the album's centrepiece track 'Take These Hands and Throw Them in the River' which really astonishes, however-imperilled ricocheting vocals, violins wailing like The Dirty Three, suffocating atmosphere like Mogwai, lyrical paranoia, a pulsating beat, all building up to a tumultuous climax. After the storm comes the lull, with birds twittering and cooing, but the pace soon builds up again culminating in another climax of distortion and noise, a pop melody and a final arpeggio guitar. The message at the end is 'Musicians are cowards'. --Everett True

Note: 5 out of 5 stars - Another stirring disc from the mighty Kranky Records
To know SMZ is to love them; an offspring of the incomparable Godspeed You Black Emperor, this consortium of musicians extends that group's vision without being derivative. The quiet, whispered vocals harken back to "He Has Left Us Alone..." but the comparison really ends there. This album feels more completely realized, somehow. It's somewhat more melodic, I guess, and the songs play the tension-and-release game with an even more dramatic effect. But mostly it's those beautiful GYBE strings and the sustained guitar against the plaintive, haunting piano that renders this clearly a work of art. Since buying GYBE's "Skinny Fists," I have voraciously gobbled up virtually every record and side project they've produced. This disc is clearly one of the best of the whole "post-rock" genre, and stands as a monument to the power of these Montreal geniuses.

Note: 5 out of 5 stars - yes!
the opening of this cd is perhaps the best i've ever heard. certainly there are some weaker moments in the middle tracks but from beginning to end this is an album of extreme power, and emotional turmoil...the use of human voice on this record is incredible (and much different than gybe!) though the words seem scripted, the voices are delicate/fragile and full of honesty...wonderfully heavy with strings, as good as anything gybe! has produced...

Note: 5 out of 5 stars - * silver god ...
silver mt. zion and the rest have sparked a masterful album with emotion and life ringing clear on each track. the format of the record is the same as the last with two real songs divided into four parts; each part comlimenting the one before and the one after. the originality in this type of band is beyond imagination. built then burnt...this album is genius.

Note: 5 out of 5 stars - heavy - tormenting - a sense of hope
the follow-up to the astonishing debut from a silver mt. zion. this album has a much larger sense of a whole than the first. when you add 3 more people that is likely to happen. there is more depth. along w/ depth comes more complication. there is a little more singing/talking than on the first also. can someone please tell me what they are saying in the fourth song..some of it is very difficult to understand. anyway, the first track sets teh tone for teh whole album adn teh next two following tracks help emphsize that. the fourth track is ok but nothing more. it gives much emotion to the album but gets a little anoying. i would have to say that the seventh track is incredable. it has a feel of gybe. it starts soft but peaks w/ gitar and ambiance. this album is not for everyone. its heavy. the first time i heard it i couldnt talk, i couldn't move, i was stuck in my tracks. how could somethign be so deep and moving? i was completly mellowed out. i didn't want to talk. i wanted to keep those notes in my head forever. like one otehr reviewer said...climb to the top of your roof, you will crumble. i agree. if you need somehting more deep and intriguing and meaningful in your collection this will be for you. another AMAZING album put out by the independent constellation records. these guys do a tremendous job. the music to the artwork. enjoy this record.

Note: 5 out of 5 stars - * truly original ...
By the time you get to track three, you're already aware of what the band has been building with their music. On tracks one and two, the band uses orchestral loops to build up the tracks layer by layer. "Built Then Burnt" starts with a child preaching about a better world and the hypocrisy that we have in our current one. The drones and violins come in... sounding very Eno-ish, and it keeps building and building until the violent burst that is "Take These Hands and Throw Them in the River." By this time... you know you have found one of the best albums of the year.
