Chroniques et points de vue:

:
Bloc Party may have arrived in an outbreak of like-minded British bands set upon shooting holes in the Union Jack while knocking out a sharp post-punk soundtrack, but it didn't take long for the foursome to set itself apart from the pack. Fronted by Nigerian-born singer Kele 0kereke, the group's 2005 debut, Silent Alarm, soared as much on crystal ambition as it did on ridiculously danceable pop melodies. This follow-up is darker, more cluttered, and harder to digest. That doesn't make it less striking. Exploring themes of racism, terrorism, sexuality, addiction, and death--the usual fodder for a cosmopolitan three-day bender--Weekend in the City is an album that plays to Bloc Party's strengths: tempo-shifting rhythms, inventive art-rock arrangements, and lyrics that twist and turn on a whim. 'The Prayer' and 'Uniform' are particular standouts, capturing moments when 0kereke lets self-importance fade and majestic beats take charge. --Aidin Vaziri

Note: 5 out of 5 stars - Good car music
This CD should be in everyone's car. If it doesn't make you want to sing and dance at every red light then there is something seriously wrong with you.

Note: 5 out of 5 stars - All New
Wow so finally a new bloc party cd! first off im not even going to compare a weekend in the city to silent alarm there both different. Upon my first listen to City i was a little dissapointed at first it felt like something was missing. it took me a few listens to get really into it and now i can t stop listening to it. One of the differences i really noticed between the two cds is that this one is not as guitar driven as silent alarm. However what you get is an amazing upbeat album that makes you want to dance or bob ur head to the amazing drum tracks. A theme to me on this album seems almost like isolation or lonleyness but at the same time expiring, deffinatly go pick this gem up as well as silent alarm and the remix album because every song they have done is pure gold.

Note: 5 out of 5 stars - * Brilliant Evolution ...
Bloc Party's earlier release Silent Alarm defined summer 2005 for me! It was by far the best album of the year, not only because the music was completely infecious and you couldn't help but get up and dance, but because it was truly unique. So needless to say I was scared that A Weekend in the City would not live up to its predecesor. Thankfull my fears were not realized! This album is amazing! Its great because its unique in that no other artists are putting out albums like this, but its also great because its a new sound for the band. As soon as you begin to listen to the album you will know its bloc party, it just has that "sound". This cd will not disappoint!!

On paper, the Mio DigiWalker P550 looks to be an attractive gadget for the mobile professional, combining the capabilities of a PDA and GPS into one device. However, its poor battery life and subpar navigation skills tell a different story.

Though it won't appeal to the masses quite yet, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a nice, portable device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it has some worthy upgrades.

Though it has a few design and performance glitches, the Sony Ericsson W300i is a quality, basic MP3 cell phone.

Diesel vehicles have nearly a 50-percent market share in Europe, thanks to tax incentives and diesel-friendly legislation across the EU. Diesels are so passé there that you can buy a BMW 730d and no one will think it odd that your luxury car burns oil. Pull up in a diesel 7-Series in America and people would leer at you like you've alighted from an amphibious vehicle reeking of saltwater and dead trout.

But now, thanks to the oft-reported combo of newly-raised CAFE standards, not-so-newly-raised gas prices, and the 50-state diesel engine, GM, Ford, and Chrysler are about to dip more than a hesitant toe into the diesel game. Chrysler offers a diesel in the Grand Cherokee, but soon all three automakers will offer diesels in their best-selling lineups of light trucks -- the Dodge Ram 1500 is expected to offer a 50-state diesel after 2009. Light trucks are being used to lead the charge since those buyers stand to gain the most with the least amount of (perceived) sacrifice.

Diesels currently have 3.2-percent of the American market. Some estimates put them at 15-percent by 2015. That's a huge leap, and diesel still has plenty of hurdles. Diesels will come with a cost premium over gasoline-engined cars. That should be easy enough to conquer -- incentives and some quick cost and longevity calculations should convince people of the benefit. The real hurdle is the nagging issue of perception. The plan will probably be to attack that with a price that makes the proposition unbeatable. Said Chrysler's director of environmental affairs, "If it's priced right, we can sell diesel here. Diesel can give you an immediate poke in fuel economy -- 20 to 40 percent. Not many technologies can deliver that today."
