The Reminder»rank: 113par: Feist
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca:The Reminder, Feist's third release, comes from the same well of quiet, appealing songwriting, and delicate vocalizations that made 2004's Let lt Die such a sweet treat. This one is a bit more hushed and ballad heavy, closer to Cat Power than Peaches (with whom Feist has also worked with in the past) but maintains an indie-minded blend of confessional pop, jazzy folk, and lo-fi torch songs. The comparatively upbeat single 'My Moon My Man' splits her voice off into unexpected harmonies, just dissonant enough to stick in your head. ... |

Rufus Wainwright (Ltd.Ed)»rank: 10148par: Rufus Wainwright
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca Canadian Essential:The son of Loudon Wainwright lll and Kate McGarrigle, Rufus Wainwright has music in his genes. His debut, Rufus Wainwright, introduces listeners to a fully- formed personality with a unique musical vision. Wainwright's music can be anything from painfully romantic to nostalgic, yet nothing here seems overbearing. A brave new face in the long history of Canadian folk. -- S. Duda From :The singer/songwriters working today who point to Tin Pan Alley and Broadway musicals as central inspirations can be counted on an index finger. Rufus Wainwright is ... |

Poses (W/2 Bonus Tracks)»rank: 1844par: Rufus Wainwright
From :The scrutiny of success that came early on--being named Best New Artist by Rolling Stone in 1998, the year of his debut album, for example--would have smothered many another emerging talent. But it failed to stopper the singular, unclassifiable, ranging gift of singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright. His sophomore album, Poses, advances ... |

A Tribute to Joni Mitchell»rank: 8755par: Various Artists (Collections)
Chroniques et points de vue:From : Tribute records live or die by the performers' ability to interpret the subject's work in new and inventive frameworks, or by how well they evoke the spirit of the original recordings. Joni Mitchell's poetic folk and jazz offers infinite possibilities for the former, which makes the notion of this collection by indie rockers, pop divas, and country and folk practitioners most appealing. Not surprisingly, for most of the men it turns out to be more of an intellectual exercise than an emotional foray (Elvis Costello's harder take on ... |

Volta»rank: 2057par: Bjork
Chroniques et points de vue:From :Björk's main asset as a musician is her fearlessness. Since the end of the Sugarcubes and the pop-dance of Debut, she has released progressively more experimental records. But after well over a decade of going further and further out, Volta steps back. Make no mistake; this is Björk, and so it's still fabulously weird. Like 2004's mesmerizing Medúlla and the 2005 soundtrack for Drawing Restraint 9, the songs are blissfully peculiar, with narratives about love, offspring, aliens...you name it. Yet melodically and philosophically, Volta recycles more than it innovates; ... |
