The Reminder»rank: 82par: Feist
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca:The Reminder, Feist's third release, comes from the same well of quiet, appealing songwriting, and delicate vocalizations that made 2004's Let lt Die such a sweet treat. This one is a bit more hushed and ballad heavy, closer to Cat Power than Peaches (with whom Feist has also worked with in the past) but maintains an indie-minded blend of confessional pop, jazzy folk, and lo-fi torch songs. The comparatively upbeat single 'My Moon My Man' splits her voice off into unexpected harmonies, just dissonant enough to stick in your head. ... |

Arcade Fire»rank: 3616par: Arcade Fire
Chroniques et points de vue:From :Arcade Fire fans are an enthusiastic bunch, and they've been hungry for more music from their favorite group. But be forewarned, this EP was actually recorded and released by the band independently in 2003. The EP is an interesting glimpse into the development of these musicians; decidedly less experienced at that point, the band didn't have quite as much oomph as they do now. When you compare these tracks with their first single, 'Rebellion (Lies)' from Funeral, you can immediately feel a difference in confidence, from vocals on through ... |

In Rainbows»rank: 104par: Radiohead
Chroniques et points de vue: :0n the deliriously satisfying ln Rainbows, Radiohead returns to a more straight-ahead (though subdued) rock sound. Much hubbub has been made about this record's innovative release. Radiohead allowed fans to pay what they wished to download fairly low-resolution tracks from the band's own website. Like so many innovations, it already seems funny both that it was such big news and that someone else of similar stature hadn't done it sooner. Some pundits were appalled that it took awhile to download the tracks if you tried to do it at the ... |

Let It Die»rank: 537par: Feist
Chroniques et points de vue:From :Canadian singer Leslie Feist has served as a guest vocalist for Norwegian folkies Kings of Convenience, Toronto power-pop troupe Broken Social Scene and - under the frightening name 'Bitch Lap-Lap' - the hairy female rapper Peaches. But her unruly resume hardly prepares you for the emotionally rich, softy sensual music on her major label debut. Moving from tortured torch songs such as 'Lonely Lonely' to pulsating originals like 'Mushaboom', it also contains stunning remakes of Ron Sexsmith's 'Secret Heart' and the Bee Gees' 'lnside and 0ut,' tunes Feist not ... |

Set Yourself On Fire»rank: 1082par: Stars
Chroniques et points de vue:From :Sure they look pretty and sound pretty and all, but is this Montreal-based quartet ever going to amount to much, you know in the course of 'rock history'? Very likely, if their captivating third album, Set Yourself on Fire, is any indication. Vocalists Amy Millan and Torquil Campbell have never harmonized better together, and the whole keyboard-heavy band is at that delectable place where they transcend their influences. Great pop music is not about 'originality' (nor has it ever much been); it's a passionate marriage of idea and conviction. ... |

Plans»rank: 920par: Death Cab for Cutie
Chroniques et points de vue: :When an indie-rock band as intimately and fiercely loved as Death Cab for Cutie makes the inevitable major label jump, it often telegraphs a painful death. Witness Husker Du, the Replacements, Nirvana--hell, even R.E.M. After a successful four-album run on tiny Seattle imprint Barsuk, however, Death Cab for Cutie just might buck the trend on its Atlantic premiere. Yes, you can grumble about the production (a little too slick), the proportion of ballads (a little too many) and the overall feeling of restraint (a little too much), but ultimately the ... |

You Forgot It in People»rank: 2089par: Broken Social Scene
Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca Canadian Essential:This Juno-award-winning sophomore effort seemed to legitimize Canada's much-discussed and highly touted 'post-rock' scene. Drawing on a revolving cast of 11 members, Broken Social Scene's guitar driven, orchestral and amazingly diverse rock entranced hipsters and rock fans alike with its sweeping themes and impressive sonic force. -- S.
